چکیده
Methods of preparing and plating inocula onto media for the Odds and Abbott Candida albicans biotyping system (F. C. Odds and A. B. Abbott, Sabouraudia 18:301-317, 1980; Odds and Abbott, Sabouraudia 21:79-81, 1983) were altered to utilize inexpensive and commercially available supplies and equipment. The modified system correlates well with the reference system.

Biotypes of Candida albicans isolated from cardiovascular system and skin surveillance cultures of hospitalized patients.
The aim of the study was to biotype 59 isolates of Candida (C.) albicans from cardiovascular system samples (blood and intravenous catheter) and 123 isolates of the same species from skin surveillance cultures (swabs of the armpit, groins and intravenous catheter insertion sites) of hospitalized patients using the Odds and Abbott biotyping method. Biotyping of 59 isolates of C. albicans taken f...
متن کاملDifferentiation of Candida dubliniensis from Candida albicans with the use of killer toxins.
The aim of this study was to report the ability of killer toxins, previously used as biotyping techniques, as a new tool to differentiate C. albicans from C. dubliniensis. The susceptibility of C. albicans and C. dubliniensis to killer toxins ranged from 33.9 to 93.3% and from 6.67 to 93.3%, respectively.
متن کاملEpidemiologic study by DNA typing of a Candida albicans outbreak in heroin addicts.
The epidemiology of an outbreak of Candida endophthalmitis in heroin addicts was studied by DNA typing. Although one biotype was prevalent, the 13 isolates of Candida albicans from seven of the patients were placed into six separate groups by DNA type. Thus, the outbreak of candidiasis was not, as had been concluded from biotyping, due to a C. albicans strain of common origin.
متن کاملCharacterization of Candida isolates from pediatric burn patients.
To provide more detailed information about Candida epidemiology and pathogenesis in pediatric burn patients, Candida isolates from 113 patients collected over 3 years were identified at the species level and the serotypes and biotypes of the C. albicans isolates were determined. A total of 85% of the patients were colonized or infected by C. albicans, 18% by C. tropicalis, and 11% by C. parapsi...
متن کاملThe Effects of Candida Albicans Cell Wall Protein Fraction on Dendritic Cell Maturation
Back ground: Candida albicans is a member of the normal human microflora. C. albicans cell wall is composed of several protein and carbohydrate components which have been shown to play a crucial role in C. albicans interaction with the host immune system. Major components of C. albican cell wall are carbohydrates such as mannans, β glucans and chitins, and proteins that partially modulate the h...
